The numeric understanding measures: Developing and validating adaptive and nonadaptive numeracy scales

چکیده
Abstract Numeracy—the ability to understand and use numeric information—is linked good decision-making. Several problems exist with current numeracy measures, however. Depending on the participant sample, some existing measures are too easy or hard; also, established often contain items well-known participants. The article aimed develop new understanding (NUMs) including a 1-item (1-NUM), 4-item (4-NUM), adaptive measure (A-NUM). In calibration study, 2 samples ( n = 226 264 from Amazon’s Mechanical Turk [MTurk]) each responded half of 84 novel items. We calibrated using 2-parameter logistic item response theory (IRT) models. Based parameters, we developed 3 measures. subsequent validation 600 MTurk participants completed Berlin Numeracy Test, Weller Rasch-Based in randomized order. To establish predictive convergent validities, also judgment decision tasks, Raven’s progressive matrices, vocabulary test, demographics. Confirmatory factor analyses suggested that 1-NUM, 4-NUM, A-NUM load onto same as NUM scales showed similar association patterns subjective cognitive Finally, they effectively predicted classic effects. fact, based power analyses, 4-NUM appeared confer more detect effects than Thus, IRT, brief without sacrificing construct scope. can be downloaded Qualtrics files https://osf.io/pcegz/ ).

Validating Health Literacy and Numeracy Measures in Minority Groups
Background: Validation studies of existing health literacy or numeracy tools among racial/ethnic minorities are limited. Objective: This study assessed the validity of the Subjective Numeracy Scale (SNS), the Diabetes Numeracy Test (DNT-5), the Brief Health Literacy Screen (BHLS), and the Short Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (S-TOFHLA) by trait (health literacy or numeracy) and by...
متن کاملEssentials for Developing and Validating Psychological Scales: Guide to Best Practices
Although Scale development is a common work in behavioral and psychological research, many of them are not adequately exact and perfect. Designing and validating a scale is not only straightforward but also it is an onerous and unfamiliar process. This process requires accuracy and exactness. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to concisely review the step by step process of scale developm...

15 صفحه اولThe Schedule for Nonadaptive and Adaptive Personality (SNAP): temporal stability and predictive validity of the diagnostic scales.
The authors investigated the test-retest reliability and predictive validity of the diagnostic scales from the Schedule for Nonadaptive and Adaptive Personality (SNAP). Participants were identified from a sample of 240 undergraduates who completed the SNAP and the Social Adjustment Scale (SAS-SR) at Time 1. The authors selected 50 people who met criteria for a personality disorder (PD) based on...
